something chinese:
saturday night was the kwun tong ward activity. it consisted of LOTS OF FOOD and karaoke that you've probably never imagined before in your life. it was so crazy ridiculous that i couldn't believe i was watching it. they were so serious too, it was a competition and they sang these old chinese songs that would brake glass if there had been any in the room. oh man, i love chinese people, but their music is another story...:)
something last minute:
last saturday i was asked to perform in our multi-zone conference last minute and had no idea what i was going to do. thank goodness one of my companions, sister chu, plays the piano and could accompany me. the APS gave me permission to go on the internet and look for a song and i have to admit that i went straight to sally deford. yes, it's hard for me to say i had to stoop to that level of music, but those were my options. and much to my surprise, i found some pretty good songs. one of them being "write thy name upon my heart," which we learned that day and i sang it the next morning! ahh! so stressful, but it'rs really pretty and has a flute/violin accomp. that makes it even better. if you want to hear it you can go to the sally deford website and listen to it. not bad, thank you sally deford!
something octoberish:
so, today is OCTOBER 1ST!!! which means BIG things in china and hong kong! there are celebrations all over today, school is out and people off from work. all because it is MID AUTUMN FESTIVAL!!! we are going to watch the fireworks at TST tonight from the island and go to Stanley market. it should be good fun. we made moon cakes with members and have been given so many that we have a pile on our coffee table at home that we have to give away to other people (they don't taste that great) but it's all part of the festivities and this saturday we get to go meet sister chu's family (that are not members) and celebrate with them and yam chah! wahoo! it's kind of like the american version of halloween and thanksgiving all combined into one. they had lions and dragon dancing in the streets today and it was fun to watch something so chinesey, if you know what i mean. they had kung fu performances as well. AHHH! i love china! and i love you all too! cheers!
