From the Land of a Commercial Christmas

something from God:

My greatest blessing this Christmas is my companion. Sister Kwok is my salvation and joy this holiday season as we serve together and try to celebrate the true meaning and purpose of christmas. I like to think God sent her to me for my Christmas gift this year. She has already taught my so much and is forcing my cantonese to become better and better everyday...:) I thought being with a native speaker would be hard in some ways because of communication and barriers that just exist with different cultures and ways of thinking and teaching, etc. Some how those barriers are not there with us and i've never had more fun, laughed so hard, learned so much and felt the spirit so strongly. we play off each other like we were friends with inside jokes from the time we were 7 years old. it makes the work so enjoyable, i can't even tell you. God is the best santa claus. he always knows what i need...

something about love:

Since i live in China, i just barely received the conference ensign and talks from October. i reread the talk by elder bednar about expressing love and showing it, baring testimony and meaning it and then being consistent. I loved this talk the moment he gave it because my mission goal is to LIVE WHAT I TEACH and try to lessen the amount of hypocrite that lives in me. it has always been an awkward thing for me to tell people i love them. i've found it easier to express in actions, cards, service, etc. so my new year's resolution is going to be telling people how much i love them and more often. this is something i rarely do. i am the kind that assumes people know. time as a missionary, moving from place to place, meeting people and then saying goodbye to people, etc has made me appreciate how i have to take advantage of the time in front of me to show my love...even if it is just the few seconds i have with the person in the line in front of me or the 6 weeks i have with my companion. it's all about love. it always has been and always will be. I hope you all know how much i love you this christmas season and know that you are in my prayers by name and held most preciously in the safest places of my heart as i walk the streets of Hong Kong. As i look at all the commercialness of christmas here, i thank God for the knowledge i have that i have a father in heaven who loves me and a savior who came to the earth because he wants me to return to him. Merry Christmas my dear family! CHeers,

Sister Bird
